Car Tour Routes
- East of Inverness Day Tour.
This Circular tour of approx 40 miles takes you
to a number of important Scottish sites and buildings. Each of
the attractions highlighted on this tour is special in their own
unique way and is highly recommended to visit. Refer to the blue
numbers 3
on the map on page 8 for directions.
N.B If you have one, remember your National Trust for
Scotland membership card, or National Trust Card which is
recognised in Scotland.

1.
Take the B9006 from Inverness to Culloden Battlefield and
Visitor Centre,(Page 1 for details). We suggest you allow 2-3
hours to take in all that the National Trust for Scotland has
included in this newly presented visitor experience (2008) A
visit to the atmospheric battlefield is a must.

Turn right out of Culloden car park onto the B9006 for about
400m, turn right on to the B851 go straight across the first
cross roads for about a mile.
You
will see signs to Balnuaran of Clava. Free Entry. Clava are a
unique group of tombs concentrated in northern Inverness-shire.
These are over 4,000 years old. In this group there are
excellent examples of ring and passage cairns. There are good
explanation plaque on the site to explain everything in detail.

On leaving, turn right onto B9006 and drive for about 7miles to
the crossroads, turn right onto
B9090 following signs to Cawdor Castle (Page 1 for details).
This unique medieval castle with its tower and drawbridge still
intact, allow a couple of hours here, (a good place to have a
leisurely lunch).

After Cawdor Castle, go back to B9090 and turn right for about
6miles until you reach Auldearn, follow signs for A96, through
village. Turn right onto A90 for about 3miles and follow signs
to Brodie Castle. (see page 1). This is a very different
property run by the National Trust for Scotland, with woodland
walk, children's adventure playground and picnic area. Return to
Inverness along A96.
