Explore the art, history and heritage of the Highlands at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery.
Explore
Scottish history and discover how the highlands are linked with the
rest of the world. From collections of Neolithic Stones, Neolithic
flint axe to a polished axe made of Jadeite imported all those
years ago from Europe. Weapons, Highland Silver and Gold, Medieval
and post Medieval finds. You have the opportunity to get face
to face with a pine marten and scratch a badger's belly. Experience
Highland contemporary art and crafts and unlock a medieval chest -
or just have a cup of tea.
There are regular events in the Museum
Highland Photo Archive
Home to over 100,000 negatives and prints. Fascinating
collections of photographs from the past, including several major
highland photographic collections:- The Joseph Cook which dates
from 1880 to early 1900's, the David Whyte collection which dates
from 1880's to 1970's, the Jimmy Nairn collection which is from the
1950s, the Shennan collection and part of the MEM Donaldson
collection.
The photographic archive is responsible for preserving and cataloguing negatives and photographs from all over the highlands and to then make them accessible to all. Customer access to the archive is through Inverness Service Point on Church Street, where the archive's office is based. If you wish to visit the office in person you must telephone first to arrange an appointment. Appointments can be arranged Monday-Friday between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm.

Public car parks are available about 5 minutes walk from the Museum. We have a new platform lift, which means that both floors of the museum - and all our facilities - are now accessible to wheelchair users and others who have difficulty with stairs.
