Although this might sound like an ancient name, this lovely town was only named in 1862. A short distance from Inverness it tends to be easily missed but the town itself has an engaging history particularly if you’re a fan of whisky. For years the town produced masses of illicit whisky only legalising their operations in 1838. You can discover more about this by visiting the Glen Ord distillery.
For fans of Golf the Muir of Ord Golf Club is a ‘must visit’ destination where you can tee off with magnificent views of Ben Wyvis and the Beauly Firth not to mention the train line that runs right through the course!
