Towns and
villages around Inverness.
In this section we will bring you information on some of the
other towns in the Inverness Highland area of Scotland.
We start with three towns north of Inverness namely Alness,
Cromarty and Dingwall, all have a long and illustrious
history. Click on the links below to be
taken to the information on the two towns:-
Alness
is located on the Cromarty
Firth. The River Averon runs through the town dividing the town
in two. The town has won acclaim with its Scotland In Bloom
awards and is known for its summer floral displays
Cromarty
is the most perfect
example of an 18th century Scottish Sea Port. Start at Cro marty
Court House where you will be given audio
head sets to
help you
wander the streets of this old town, painting a picture of who
lived here in the past and what happened at various points on
your tour. You will also see
some very
different places that you will not se e
any where else in Scotland. Highly recommended!
Dingwall
is one
of the smallest chartered burghs in Britain. Granted its burgh
rights by Alexander in 226. The Vikings had their court of
justice here on Greenhill at the west end of the town. The young
Macbeth (mentioned in Shakespeare's play) is reputed to have
lived in the castle and played on the banks of the river Peffery
nearby. Here we take you on an historic trail of the town
pointing out all the places of interest on the way.
