The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar

The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar is situated on the banks of the River Ness and described on Trip Advisor as “a gem of a find”, the Waterfront was forced to close its doors in December 2011 after a devastating fire broke out in the kitchen. But after tasteful refurbishment and a stunning new menu, it is back in business. The reopening came as welcome news to all residents and visitors in the Highland capital.

The historic Waterfront Restaurant and Bar building is steeped in the traditions and folklore of the past. When the public house first opened its doors over a hundred years ago, it was called “Friars Shott” after the Dominican Friars who cast their fishing nets across the river from the bank in front of the bar. Pulling in the nets was such a big social occasion that it was declared an annual local holiday and all the community would come out to help.

These days the legendary Waterfront Restaurant and pub is better known for its warm welcome and good food. Award-winning chef Roslyn McIntosh has added delicious original dishes to the menu including traditional Scottish favourites, steaks, grills, vegetarian options and an extensive seafood selection along with a mouth-watering medley of desserts to finish. For diners not familiar with traditional Scottish food, the Highland tapas for two is the perfect sharing platter. It gives customers the chance to sample a collection of customary nibbles.

All meals are made from the finest local produce and cooked to order, and every dish on the menu is reasonably priced.

The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar welcomes children with their own menu and offers the little ones their own selection of favourite dishes along with some colouring sheets and crayons to keep them entertained.

The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar provides a large selection of drinks to choose from including real ales, malt whiskies and speciality coffees and liqueurs. A new addition to the drinks list is a Whisky Flight, which is made up of three malts from different regions of Scotland.

Evening entertainment at the Waterfront Restaurant and Bar is provided every Thursday night with a traditional Scottish folk session performed by Kenny Jamieson (Lead singer Schiehallion). There is also entertainment one Saturday a month in July, August and September with local Scottish Ceilidh band Schiehallion.

The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar is always offering something new so if you don’t visit you will miss something good.
