A minor village with a population of around 120, Laide demonstrates what can happen when a community unite on a project with 85 hectares of woodland owned by the local community that was at one time part of the common grazing land.
The lovely woodland provides a number of sign posted walks of different levels of muddiness but none of which are difficult walks for those who don’t mind getting dirty boots!
If woodland walks don’t appeal, then Laide also presents a stunning white sandy beach with a position sheltered from the onshore westerly wind. This beach, though small, has wonderful views towards the mountains in the far North East as far as 25 miles. The apparently unbounded nature of the horizon is matched only by the clarity of the water, which is tempting and swimmable on a warm day.
