Stoer, Highland, United Kingdom
The sleepy village of Stoer is to be found on the edge of a wide open bay with a lovely peaceful, sandy beach and an Iron Age broch to the south of the bay.
The graveyard at Stoer is still in use and there are ruins of the church. The church was built in 1828 but was too small for the huge population which the area then had, so services were held out-of-doors in fine weather.
Just to the south of Stoer Bay, right on the coast are the remains of a broch, which is relatively well preserved. Clachtoll Broch, is an Iron Age fort about 30 feet high and 50 feet in outside diameter but internally only 26 feet as the building had a double wall with a stairway going up between the two walls. The remains of this can still be seen.
